Europe Expands AI Ambitions with Six New “AI Factories” Across the Continent
The European Commission has announced a major leap forward in its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy with the creation of six new AI Factories across Europe.
This expansion brings the total number of AI Factories to 19 facilities across 16 EU Member States, strengthening Europe’s ambition to lead the world in digital innovation and AI sovereignty.
The new centres — based in Czechia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, Spain, and Poland — will act as powerful engines for AI research, development, and industrial adoption, linking academia, startups, and enterprises.
Supported by a €500 million joint investment from the EU and national governments, the initiative will provide AI-optimised supercomputing access, training, and technical expertise to startups, SMEs, and researchers across Europe.
In total, the project forms part of a broader €2.6 billion investment in the AI Factories and Antennas Initiative, aimed at building a digitally sovereign “AI Continent.”
